SJCFD will inspect and test home smoke detectors, as well as change batteries at no charge, by appointment. SJCFD also offers free smoke detectors to homes in need of them.

SJCFD will provide a complete Fire Safety inspection of your home, by appointment at your convenience. We will point out areas of concern to Fire Safety in your home and give recommendations on ways to improve them.
Carbon Monoxide Detector Assistance
SJCFD will provide information and guidance on the purchase of CO detectors for your home. We can also help with installation of CO detectors by appointment.

Burn Permits
Visit the Missouri Department of Natural Resources website for Open Burning Regulations.
Mandatory Action! Contact the Southern Jackson County Fire Department prior to burning to notify the on-duty crew, and also to confirm that the current weather conditions are acceptable for burning to take place. Although burn permits are no longer required at this time, you still need to contact Southern Jackson County Fire District if you plan to burn.
Conditions Acceptable for Burning:
- Air quality must be good.
- Wind Speed <10 MPH

Burn Permits
A permit is required for all controlled burns in the district. Burns are regulated by Missouri Department of Natural Resources as well as SJCFD. All controlled burns must be inspected before a permit will be issued.
